Buffalo Joe McBryan, a carpenter in California was killed in 1972 when he fell to his death while working on constructing the tallest building in the world. The story gets more interesting what happened after his body was removed from the building. The body of Buffalo Joe McBryan is forcefully removed from the unfinished edifice and quickly dumped on a busy highway. He is not claimed by his family members who are waiting for him at the base of the building, nor does anyone step forward to claim jurisdiction over him. He is left there on purpose just so people can see him and get it out of their heads that he died while doing something stupid and dangerous. Around the same year, a former employee of McBryan's, Louis Bruckheimer, died while working on a new building. He also was not claimed by his family and was left on the base of the building. McBryan and Bruckheimer were left there so people could see them and get it out of their heads that they died while doing "something stupid and dangerous." A couple years later in 1975, construction worker Joseph Goshorn was crushed to death when an unbalanced crane let him fall 30 feet to his death. The construction company was fined $1,000 for failing to provide any security against such an accident. The crane had never been fully safety tested because the company was behind schedule, and it was suggested that the firm did not want to take time away from their production to run safety tests. Every major building in California has an inscription, "No man shall climb higher than the laws of nature permit." As well as this inscription, each site contains statues of McBryan and Bruckheimer. The statues are placed so that they face both the ground and the building they died on. The two men are not looking at their former place of employment, but instead are looking at the general public. They look harmless enough in stature yet they still look intimidating. This reminds the local residents to respect those who have died on those structures, as well as those who have died without being noticed. In addition, the two graces have been buried in a cemetery with a view of their site. Both men were laid to rest with a tombstone bearing a single word: "Never". This is a reminder that death can come at any time and that you never know when it will happen to you. The two tombs represent the American dream coming true for all of them, but not everyone can enjoy it. In the case where someone dies without being claimed, or left on purpose, they are denied their chance at true happiness with everlasting peace. Those who have been denied their chance at the American dream are just left there for everyone to see from a distance. It can be unnerving to look at them, especially if you know their stories. In conclusion, Buffalo Joe McBryan and Louis Bruckheimer represent all those people who died without ever having an opportunity to live out the American dream. They knew that they would die on high-rise buildings, but never thought they would be dying like that. They were supposed to die of old age on the tallest building in the world; instead they died trying to construct that very building. 8eeb4e9f32 45
